Thank you, Don!
In last autumn’s Michigan Environmental Report, Dearborn conservationist Don A. Griffin wrote: “Advocacy is not enough, we need champions.” He would know. He was one. Don passed away Nov. 23, leaving a legacy of environmental stewardship and enlightened activism. Griffin earned MEC’s 2006 Petoskey Prize for Environmental Leadership. He was instrumental in the long battle to save the Humbug Marsh along the Detroit River and was a founding member of the Friends of the Detroit River and the Friends of the Rouge. Don has left us. But anyone who tramps the grounds of the Humbug Marsh or marvels at the comeback of the Detroit River is testament that his legacy thrives.
