"Picture the Solution" Photo and Essay Contest

Barbara Stanton Environmental Award of Excellence

Each year, MEC offers a photo and essay contest, co-sponsored by the Detroit Free Press, to raise awareness of environmental problems and possible solutions. Contestants are asked to discover inventive ways to help make the world a better, cleaner place and document these ideas in a photograph and short essay of no more than 200 words. The Barbara Stanton Award of Excellence is named for Barbara Stanton, a retired Free Press editorial writer and champion of the environment.

First, second and third place winners of each age group (8-13, 14-18 and 19+) will win cash prizes of $500, $250 and $100, respectively. Their photo and essay will be placed in the Sunday edition of the Free Press.

Photo and essay entries are to be postmarked no later than Friday, May 7 and sent to Amber Shinn at the Michigan Environmental Council, 119 Pere Marquette, Suite 2A, Lansing, MI 48912; or emailed to ambermec@voyager.net.

We accept original photographs only. E-mailed images with a resolution lower than 300 dpi won't be considered. Entries are judged by a panel from MEC and the Free Press. By entering, all winners agree to allow MEC unlimited use of image and essay.
