DEQ Budget Falls Under the Ax Again

Governor Engler cut the DEQ’s general fund support by an additional 10.7% in his proposed fiscal year 2003 budget, continuing his assault on the department’s funding and jeopardizing its ability to protect public health. The new cuts come at the heels of a 15.9% cut in fiscal year 2002, resulting in a 26.9% cut for DEQ from fiscal year 2001 levels ($99 million to $74 million).
