SENATE

On the Floor:

SB 152 – A bill to phase out the use of phosphorus in dishwashing detergent.

SB 362 – A bill to put in statute the current restrictions placed on laundry detergent (currently in administrative rule).

In committee:

Appropriation subcommittees:

Transportation will meet on Tuesday (4/17) at 11:30 to work on the FY 2007-08 Michigan Department of Transportation Budget.

Natural Resources will meet on Tuesday (4/17) at noon to begin work on the FY 2007-08 Department of Natural Resources Budget, a presentation and overview by Director Rebecca Humphries, and public testimony.  

Agriculture will meet on Tuesday (4/17) at 1:00 for further work on the FY 2007-08 Michigan Department of Agriculture Budget.

Environmental Quality will meet on Thursday (4/19) at 1:00 to begin work on FY 2007-08 Department of Environmental Quality Budget, a presentation and overview by Director Steven Chester and public testimony.

 

Standing committees:

Transportation will meet on Tuesday (4/17) at 11:30 for:

  • SB 265  A bill to regulate emergency lights on vehicles of volunteer members of emergency management units.
  • SB 360  A bill to extend the deadline for projects eligible for funding through local match grant programs.
  • Presentation by the Michigan State Police on speed limits.

 

Commerce and Tourism will meet on Tuesday (4/17) at 2:30 for:

  • Testimony re: SB 102  A bill regarding worker's compensation disabilities for  occupational cancer; providing presumption for certain firefighters.
  • Pending Referral: A bill regarding economic development; plant rehabilitation; modifying the definition of industrial property.  

 

Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs will meet Wednesday (4/18) at 1:00 for:

  • HB 4143 – Abill to designate certain marine safety misdemeanor violations as state civil infraction.
  • SR 33  - A resolution designating April 22 - May 1, 2007, as Michigan Conservation Week.
  • Presentation by the Michigan 4-H Youth Conservation Council.

 

Energy Policy and Public Utilities will meet on Thursday (4/19) at 1:00 for:

  • SR 36 and SCR 8 (Patterson) A resolution and concurrent resolution to urge the President of the United States, the United States Congress, and the United States Department of Energy to restore funding for the Weatherization Assistance Program in Fiscal Year 2008 and to consider increasing future funding for this important federal program.
  • Discussion of Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) technology and carbon capture.

 

HOUSE

Introduced:

HB 4583: Representative Frank Accavitti introduced the “Energy Efficient Michigan Act” on 4/5/07. It was referred to the Committee on Energy and Technology the same day.

In Committee:

Appropriations will meet Tuesday (4/17) at noon for:

  • SB 220  - Appropriations; zero budget; supplemental appropriations; provide for fiscal year 2006-2007.
  • HB 4493 - Appropriations; supplemental; multidepartment supplemental for fiscal year 2006-2007; provide for.

 

Appropriations subcommittees:

Agriculture will meet on Wednesday (4/18) at 9:00 for:

  • HB 4352 Appropriations; agriculture; department of agriculture; provide for fiscal year 2007-2008.
  • Food and Dairy Programs.

 

Standing committees:

Great Lakes and Environment will meet on Wednesday (4/18) at 12:00 to vote on new trash legislation. The following bills will be up for vote:

  • HB 4047  - A bill to provide for a moratorium on construction of new landfills and limits on expansions of existing landfills.
  • HB 4485-86 – Bills to provide for changes to the solid waste planning process.  

 

Agriculture will meet on Wednesday (4/18) at 2:30 or after session for presentations by:

  • The Michigan Food Policy Council: Kristin Brooks, Executive Coordinator.
  • The Michigan Land Use Institute: Patty Cantrell, Project Director.

 

Energy and Technology will meet on Thursday (4/19) at 11:00 for:

  • A discussion of P.A. 141 of 2000 by Project Michigan.
