SENATE

On the floor:

HB 4597: A bill to provide for hunting on Department of Natural Resources controlled land.

SB 628: A bill to revise requirements that the owner of a public beach provides access to safety and rescue equipment and clarify that activity is a governmental function.

SB 629: A bill to prohibit jumping, diving, or swimming off any pier in the Great Lakes.  

 

In committee:

Agriculture will meet Thursday (10/18) at 9:00 am for a presentation by Don Koivisto, Director of the Michigan Department of Agriculture.

 

HOUSE

On the floor:

SB 350: A bill to create an animal welfare fund.

HB 5034 - 5035: These bills would preempt any local unit of government from regulating the agricultural use of fertilizer.

 

In committee:

House Tourism, Outdoor Recreation and Natural Resources will meet on Tuesday (10/16) at 10:30 am to take up:

  • HB 4490: Eliminate requirement for post-purchase pistol safety inspection. 
  • HB 4491: Eliminate certain other references to pistol safety inspection and it being a crime of failing to have pistol safety inspected after purchase. 
  • HB 5039: Allow transport of unregistered pistols for inspection under certain circumstances.
  • HB 5040: Modify pistol licensing exceptions to the concealed weapon law. 
  • HB 5108: Exclude certain veterans from requirement of firearm training before issuance of concealed weapon permit.

 

Great Lakes and Environment will meet Wednesday (10/17) at noon to take up:

  • HB 4222: Earmark the surcharge on solid waste entering landfills.
  • HB 4484: Revise the solid waste plan and require recycling reports.

Transportation: Public Transit will meet on Wednesday (10/17) at 9:00 am for presentation by the following:

  • Jim Townsend, Executive Director, Tourism Economic Development Council, Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau.
  • John DeLora, Chairman, Michigan Association of Railroad Passengers.
