Natural Resources committees in the House and Senate will begin work on water withdrawal legislation this week with a joint hearing focusing on the on the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Basin Water Resources Compact.
SENATE
On the floor:
HB 4597: A bill to provide for hunting on Department of Natural Resources controlled land.
SB 628: A bill to revise requirements that the owner of a public beach provides access to safety and rescue equipment and clarify that activity is a governmental function.
SB 629: A bill to prohibit jumping, diving, or swimming off any pier in the Great Lakes.

Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs will meet Wednesday (10/24) at 8:00 AM for a briefing on the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Basin Water Resources Compact given by David Naftzger, Executive Director of the Council of Great Lakes Governors.
Economic Development and Regulatory Reform will meet on Wednesday (10/24) at 1:00 pm to take up a number of bills that will amend the laws regarding brownfield redevelopment and brownfield redevelopment authorities.

On the floor:
SB 350: A bill to create an animal welfare fund.
HB 5034 - 5035: These bills would preempt any local unit of government from regulating the agricultural use of fertilizer.

Tourism, Outdoor Recreation and Natural Resources will meet on Tuesday (10/23) at 10:30 am to take up HB 5031, a bill to designate deer hunting season for certain disabled veterans to correspond with the special youth hunt.
Great Lakes and Environment will meet Wednesday (10/24) at 8:00 AM for a briefing on the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Basin Water Resources Compact given by David Naftzger, Executive Director of the Council of Great Lakes Governors.
Intergovernmental, Urban and Regional Affairs will meet on Wednesday at 10:30 am to take up HB 5032 that amends the Zoning Enabling Act.
New Economy and Quality of Life will meet on Thursday (10/25) at 9:00 am for a presentation by Jim Croce, CEO of Next Energy on the alternative energy technology industry in Michigan.
