Local Land Use Heroes Project
| Today, you can still nominate an organization to become a Local Land Use Hero by filling out this form. |
The Local Land Use Heroes Project began in 2003 as an attempt to capture the spirit and character of
Michigans unique places by recognizing organizations
that
are working to protect these communities in each of the states 110 House Districts.
The groups recognized as Local Land Use Heroes — listed below — work to protect open space, preserve farmland,
promote urban revitalization and improve public transportation
are ideal candidates. The descriptions that follow include facts and contact info about each group, a description of the places they protect, and
the Smart Growth tools they use to do it.
Ultimately, MEC hopes that
this project will help:
-
Increase awareness of
Smart Growth efforts occurring at the local level
and relate them to the overall protection of Michigans
unique places and communities
-
Build statewide support
for a Smart Growth agenda, particularly from the environmental
and legislative communities
-
Encourage active participation
from heroes and legislators in developing the agenda
-
Provide a resource for
locating Smart Growth information.
If you are interested in
being recognized as a Local Land Use Hero or would like
to nominate a Hero, please fill out our survey or contact the Michigan Environmental Council at 517
487-9539 or via email at bradmec@voyager.net.
